Using an adult diaper instead of a maxi pad?
You can classify these questions as pure male curiosity. Over the years I’ve viewed several tampon commercials which compare maxi pads (or sanitary napkins, I believe they’re also called) to diapers, saying that when a woman wears a maxi pad it pretty much feels like she’s wearing a diaper. First of all, let me ask – is this true? I assume it is and it’s understandable why someone would feel that way.
And yet maxi pads of course continue to be used or you wouldn’t have tons of commercials about them. From the commercials it seems that they have all sorts of leakage barriers, curves and wings to attempt to protect your underwear and pants. Just from a male perspective, it seems you would still be unsure about leakage even with those protections. And this leads me to my second question – if maxi pads are basically diapers, why not just wear a real diaper during the menstrual cycle? A disposable adult diaper (or the pull-up “protective underwear”) could be worn for a longer time without changing (causing less waste) and would seem to offer much more complete and certain protection. And to eliminate all waste, a washable cloth diaper could be used.
I know I’m speaking as a utilitarian guy and I may not understand the situation from your perspective, but it seems at least a little bit sensible to me. So don’t beat me up too much and tell me whether it’s at least sensible or if it’s actually done (which I doubt).
An additional point since some of you mentioned fashion -- what about overnight wear? Does a maxi pad work well overnight? I can understand your point about not wanting to look bulky with a diaper but that's not an issue when you're sleeping.
